My Little Brown Book

I have a little book in my purse - it goes with me everywhere. There are two stickers that decorate the plain brown cover, "Remember" and "Wisdom."

Write this down so you remember, wouldn't want to forget. There are lists: things to pick up at the store, appointments to make, numbers to call, dates to put on the calender. Remember not to forget. If it is important, it is in the Little Brown Book. There are also stories to remember to tell. Oh the places I go and the things I would otherwise forget: "Remember when we were walking in Hollywood and we got stopped to be interviewed for the Dr. Drew show. Remember the guy that came in and sat at the bar who knew all about Patty Griffin. Remember how your own reflection nearly scared you grey." My Little Brown Book contains the stories I tell others. If I don't write them down, I'll forget.

My Little Brown Book has lines of Wisdom. Quotes from professors, parts of prayers, books to read, things to think and ponder later. When I'm in a rush, but God is prompting me to work through an issue, I write it down, and come back. There His words are, ready for me to process. There are the beginnings of about 6 different posts - one day they may make it off the pages of the Little Brown Book on to the bright white screen of the Web World.

But for now the pages stay safe and hidden in my purse. I can be found at coffee shops, in the airport, in my car, at work, in class, or flipping my light on in the middle of the night, reaching for my Little Brown Book, writing down the next Memory, trying to Remember what not to forget next.

I have my own version of a little brown book, too.

    I like this.
